Drinking Water

Appliction

Rubber seals in the drinking water field are for maintaining safe, clean, and leak-proof water distribution. Here are the main applications and specific functions these seals serve:

1. Valves and Pumps
Seals in valves and pumps prevent water leakage and maintain consistent pressure within the water distribution system.

2. Water Filtration Systems
Seals help maintain the integrity of filtration units, ensuring contaminants are filtered out without any bypass.

3. Faucets and Fixture Connections
Rubber seals in faucets and fixture connections ensure no leakage and help maintain the pressure of water exiting fixtures.

4. Backflow Prevention Devices
In these devices, rubber seals prevent the backward flow of contaminated water into the clean water supply.

5. Pressure Reducing Valves
Rubber Seals ensure that pressure regulators maintain consistent pressure in the water supply system.

                                          The type of material Used:

1. EPDM (Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer)
Properties: Excellent resistance to ozone, UV radiation, weathering, non-toxic and resistant to a wide range of chemicals and acids and aging. Good performance in both hot and cold water environments.
Applications: Seals, gaskets, O-rings, hoses, and water filtration systems.
Benefits for Drinking Water:
Food-safe and complies with standards such as NSF/ANSI 61 for drinking water. Excellent resistance to chlorinated water and does not degrade when exposed to UV radiation.
Maintains its integrity even under extreme temperature fluctuations (from freezing to high heat).

Temperature Range: -40°C to 120°C (or -40°F to 248°F).

2. Silicone Rubber (VMQ)
Properties: Silicone rubber is highly flexible, temperature-resistant (can handle both high and low temperatures), and is non-toxic.
Applications: Gaskets, seals, O-rings, and tubing used in water dispensing systems, water filtration, and in areas exposed to hot water.
Benefits for Drinking Water:
FDA-compliant and meets food-grade standards. Very high temperature resistance (can withstand up to 230°C) and retains flexibility even at low temperatures. Chemically inert, so it doesn’t react with water, ensuring no contaminants are introduced.

Temperature Range: -60°C to 200°C (or -76°F to 392°F)

3. Nitrile Rubber (NBR)
Properties: Nitrile rubber is resistant to oils, fuels, and water, and has a high level of abrasion resistance.
Applications: Seals and O-rings in plumbing systems, water pumps, and other industrial water systems.
Benefits for Drinking Water:
FDA-approved and compliant with NSF/ANSI 61 standards for use in potable water applications. Good for applications exposed to slightly oily water or other non-aggressive water-based fluids.

Temperature Ranges: -20°C to 80°C (or -4°F to 176°F).

4. Fluoroelastomers (FKM)
Properties: Fluoroelastomers are highly resistant to chemicals, oils, and high temperatures.
Applications: Seals, gaskets, and O-rings used in applications involving harsh chemical environments, such as water treatment systems that use chemicals.
Benefits for Drinking Water:
Provides excellent resistance to chlorine, ozone, and other harsh chemicals used in water treatment.
High-temperature stability (up to 250°C), compliance with FDA and safe for use in drinking water systems when properly formulated.

Temperature Range: -20°C to 250°C (or -4°F to 482°F).

5. Neoprene Rubber (CR)
Properties: Neoprene rubber offers good resistance to water, oils, and many chemicals, and performs well under moderate temperatures.
Applications: Seals, gaskets, and hoses in various plumbing and industrial water systems.
Benefits for Drinking Water:
Non-toxic and compliant with FDA and NSF/ANSI 61 standards for drinking water.
Resistant to ozone, oils, and mild chemicals, making it suitable for use in water systems exposed to various environmental conditions.

Temperature Range: -40°C to 100°C (or -40°F to 212°F).
