Back-up Rings

A back-up ring is a type of sealing component used in conjunction with O-rings to prevent extrusion and damage under high-pressure conditions. Typically made of materials like plastic or rubber, back-up rings are placed on the side of an O-ring that faces the pressure, acting as a support to maintain the O-ring's integrity. They help to prevent the O-ring from being deformed or squeezed out of its groove, especially in applications with high pressure or extreme temperatures. Back-up rings are commonly used in hydraulic, pneumatic, and fluid sealing systems.

Back-up rings are the most common anti-extrusion devices employed in dynamic and static sealing, designed to prevent the migration of sealing material into the extrusion gap under the system pressure. BEST RING offers a wide range of back-up ring geometries and materials to suit every seal type and application. They are open or closed shapes for snap assembly made of a broad range of compounds which are highly resistant to thermal or mechanical stress.
